Biodynamic Breath (BBTRS®)

Deep dive into your subconscious bodymind, letting go of tension, trauma & conditioning with this conscious superventilation process.

Biodynamic Breath (BBTRS®) has its roots in elements of Wilhelm Reich's Body Psychotherapy, combined with the soft and gentle techniques of Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing®. It is a profound and revolutionary system of breath/body therapy that integrates deep connected breathing with innovative conscious movements, body awareness techniques, touch, bodywork & sound.

The system is based on an observation of how tension is held and distributed in the body-mind structure and is designed to break through layers of body armouring, inviting the release of mental, emotional & physical blockages (including arrested trauma-related fight/flight or freeze responses) right to our core. Through opening the spine and releasing the chronic tension held in the nervous system, we are enabled to experience and be present to the full range of sensations and emotions available to a human being, whist expanding our capacity to contain and support the free flow of vital life force energy and opening us deeper to acceptance of ourselves and others.

“The primary nature of every human being is to be open to life and love. Being guarded, armoured, distrustful and enclosed is second nature in our culture. It is the means we adopt to protect ourselves from being hurt, but when such attitudes become characterological or structured in the personality, they constitute a greater crippling than the one originally suffered.”

— Alexander Lowen, ‘Bioenergetics’

How does it work?

Breath

Deep connected breathing charges up the body and activates specific belts of muscular tension & emotional patterns. The sessions are designed to stimulate and rebalance your mind and body from head to toe.

Awareness

Awareness is where BBTRS® begins and ends. Bringing our focus to our felt sense - feelings & sensations in our bodies as we progress through the session allows us to work with what’s unfolding. Pure awareness is also the resting state the mind and body often return to in the wake of a session.

Movement

Natural movement including fascial unwinding, bioenergetic exercises, spinal waves, eye movement (EMDR) and trauma release exercises (TRE) used with awareness to unlock stuck energy in the body’s tissues. Movement is key to what makes BBTRS® truly transformative.

Bodywork

BBTRS® uses conscious touch at many levels, from the body’s energetic field to contact with core muscles. It’s applied with sensitivity to increase awareness and support energy flow.

Sound

The effects of sound on our nervous system are truly remarkable. It is one of the most powerful and supportive tools we can use in BBTRS® sessions. With conscious intention and creative use, vocalization, recordings, and live instrumental sounds are a tremendous resource in sessions.

Safe Space

Full trust in our guide and comfort in our environment are necessary for our bodies to move out of survival states

Release Processes

Soft emotional & energetic release can be part of a BBTRS® session though it’s not the goal. These may come in the form of tears, laughter, tremoring, spontaneous involuntary movements, sounding out, bubbling in the belly, temperature shifts, pins and needles etc. You are supported to stay present while revisiting deeper feelings and sensations – and to return to your own sense of comfort whenever necessary. This balance is key to the BBTRS® approach. It supports you to release and integrate trauma, rather than simply relive it or become overwhelmed. Visions, memories or insights on life issues, experiences and relationships are also common when coming into integration phases.

Biofeedback

Breathing affects our heart rate, HRV, brainwave activity, blood pressure and oxygen & CO2 levels which can be monitored over time. (This is optional).

“The two basic desires we human beings have are the desire to love and be loved and the desire to understand and be understood. They are natural and deeply ingrained in us. Because of these desires we often do things that compromise our true calling in life. In meditation and conscious self work, we let go of these desires and return to joy, freedom, self-possession, self-assertion and ultimately inner peace and silence.”

Your experience of life is determined mostly by your habits of attention and the patterned flow of your life energy.
